This e-module highlights Indigenous voices and experiences with health services in Waterloo Wellington. It provides opportunities to enhance cultural safety by building practical skills to partner with local Indigenous Peoples on their healthcare journeys.  This module takes 1-1.5 hours to complete, not including time spent with recommended additional resources. 

*This program is not offered by Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth – it is led by a community partner. However, we wanted to share information about the program as it may benefit the communities we work with.

Who is this for?

For all team members, inclusive of leadership, staff in all parts of your organization (frontline, support, admin, HR, IT) and volunteers, in health and community support services.

Outcomes

By the end of this program, participants will be able to:

Become familiar with the impact of colonization on local Indigenous Peoples, histories and experiences in healthcare.
Learn social and distal determinants of health due to colonization that impact Indigenous older adults’ overall wellbeing.
Practice tangible skills to enhance culturally safe engagement with Indigenous patients, clients and their families.
Build relationship with Indigenous communities and leaders to work towards community-centred care.

The Caring for Indigenous Older Adults in Waterloo Wellington e-module is an outcome of the Waterloo Wellington Older Adult Strategy (now the Waterloo Wellington Older Adult Council), in collaboration with Indigenous partners, the WWOAC Indigenous Relations Working Group, Dialectic and engagement across the local Ontario Health Teams.
