Morning Session

Relationship-Based Senior Care

Dr. Mark Lachmann, Vice President, Medical Affairs, Sinai Health, Geriatric Psychiatry Director for the Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Office in Ontario and sits on the Geriatric and Long-Term Care Death Review Committee of the Coroner’s Office. Geriatric psychiatrist working with patients in acute, rehabilitation, long-term care, and community
settings.

Dr. Jon Hunter is a Professor at the University of Toronto and holds the Pencer Family Chair in Applied General Psychiatry at the Sinai Health System where he also heads the Psychosocial Team at the Marvelle Koffler Breast Center and works on the Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison team.

Dr. Robert Maunder is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and holds the Chair of Health and Behaviour at Sinai Health. Dr. Maunder collaboration with Dr. Jon Hunter, focuses on the power of
interpersonal relationships.

With Jon Hunter, he is the author of Damaged: Childhood Adversity, Adult Illness, and the Need for a Health Care Revolution.

Voice of the Older Adult


Gratitude for What We Have: Strive for What We Should Have


Colleen Roberts is retired from the University of Guelph, Administration Support. Colleen is an active older adult who shares the voice of the older adult through her lived experiences, engaging collaboration and leadership roles with the Waterloo Wellington Older Adult (Strategy) Council.

Creating Opportunities for Older Adults and Youth to Build Relationships: Support Through the Generations


Mona Loffelmann is the Founder and Executive Director of the African Family Revival Organization and is responsible for developing and implementing outreach programs that engage black and other marginalized groups, building relationships with key stakeholders, and working to create a more inclusive and equitable community. Mona is
the Project Coordinator and Cultural Navigator for AFRO’s Support Through Generations program.

Dana Zummach is the Manager of Programs, Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging and is involved with the Supporting Inclusion through Intergenerational Partnerships (SIIP) project. The SIIP project reduces social isolation, and builds meaningful relationships that span across generations.

Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

Examine the intersectionality of diversity, aging, trauma, comorbidities, and end of life decision making.
Take away ideas and inspiration from those who are working innovatively to bring hope in health care across Waterloo Wellington.
Learn about the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) on our health and wellbeing as we age.
