This session looks at Type 2 diabetes in the First Nations, Inuit and Métis community from a historical lens, explains the holistic structure of IDHC’s programs and services, and briefly reviews IDHC wellness resources. Participants will learn about specific characteristics of diabetes in the First Nations, Inuit and Métis community as well as how ongoing disparities in the social determinants of health impacts diabetes risk, management, and quality of care. Central to the presentation is the knowledge that (Indigenous) culture is vital to one’s sense of identity, autonomy, and overall health and wellbeing.
