Perspectives from Patients and Clinicians on the use of Novel Therapeutics for the Treatment of Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders

Offered by Homewood Health

Many individuals with substance use disorders or concurrent disorders do not respond to first-line treatments. As a result, other novel treatment approaches are currently being investigated. However, we know very little about how patients and clinicians may perceive these novel treatment approaches, including their level of knowledge of and support for these treatments. Gaining this baseline understanding is important to inform ongoing learning opportunities.

To collect these perspectives, Homewood’s research team comprised of members from McMaster University, Homewood Research Institute and Homewood Health, surveyed patients and clinicians from the Addiction Medicine Program. These surveys provide descriptions, evidence, side effects and more for 10 new or existing treatments, including psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and neurostimulation treatments. Participants were asked about their level of knowledge of these treatments, how promising they believe them to be and how much they would be willing to recommend or accept these treatments. This webinar will share the results of these surveys.

*The program is not offered by Centre for Resilience, Learning & Growth – it is led by a community partner. However, we wanted to share information about the program as it may benefit those we interact with.
